Marion Natural History Museum574 viewsDespite the impending Polar Vortex, a small hardy group learned to identify some our local trees and shrubs in winter. Have you ever smelled a black cherry? (Yuck!) Or a yellow birch? (Yum!) We learned about opposite and alternate leaf arrangement on a branch, what lenticels look like on a birch and a hickory, and that you can make tea out of sassafras. Thank you to Sarah Porter for the great program. Photos courtesy Elizabeth Leidhold

Great Community Picnic574 viewsThe Great Community Picnic hosted by the Mattapoisett Land Trust and Historical Museum featured great food, music, and lots of creative expression. One table was tricked out in a Jaws theme while another was filled with ladies wearing hats called “fascinators”. The fourth annual fundraiser was a sold out event. The grounds of the MLT’s Munro Preserve provided the perfect location as nearly 200 people mingled harbor side. Photo by Marilou Newell
