Poker Run475 viewsMotorcyclists gathered Sunday morning, September 20, in the parking lot of ORR to ride in the third annual Poker Run for Alex Pateakos. Alex is a five-year-old Marion boy who suffers from Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Money raised by the poker run will benefit Alex, and Families of SMA, a group that helps families like the Pateakos’ live their lives as close to normal as possible. Gold Medal475 viewsThe Old Hammondtown School orchestra pulled off its fifth straight gold medal at the Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Association competition. As a prize, the orchestra got to play at the Boston Symphony Hall on April 27. This was a bittersweet moment for the orchestra, as it will be the last year that they will enjoy the guidance of their music teachers, Stan Ellis and Jean West, who are both retiring this year. The ceremony began with a service at the Veteran’s monument in front of the library, and then a parade assembled and marched to the town wharf and to Cushing Cemetery. The next meeting of the Nasketucket Bird Club will be Thursday, January 26, 7:00 pm at the Mattapoisett library. The group will discuss plans for programs, trips, and speakers. Everyone is welcome. Nasketucket members include birders from Mattapoisett, Wareham, Marion, Rochester, Fairhaven, Acushnet, and other area towns.
