Marion Natural History Museum518 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's afterschool group enjoyed learning the history of the Bird Island lighthouse and viewing the return of the birds to the island. We spotted roseate terns, common terns, oyster catchers, some unhappy Canadian geese, and a nesting mallard duck. We also learned about the recent restoration efforts made by the state Department of Fish and Wildlife to improve drainage and provide adequate nesting habitat for the returning birds. We wish to thank Isaac and Pete of the Marion Har

Marion Natural History Museum518 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's after school program had fun with insects, like the Madagascar cockroach and the "toe-biter," AKA giant water bug. Outside, we took a closer look at some of the insects we can find in our neighborhoods. Many thanks to Blake Dinius of the Plymouth County Extension Service and the student volunteers from Tabor Academy and ORR. Photos courtesy Elizabeth Leidold

Harbor Days518 viewsAnother year, another Harbor Days, and another successful effort on behalf of the Mattapoisett Lions Club to raise funds for the good of the community. Harbor Days this year was indeed a hot one, but most agreed that a heat wave was preferable to the rainy washout experienced in prior years. Photos by Jean Perry

Rochester Country Fair518 viewsThe Rochester Country Fair pressed on in the face of a “critical” EEE threat in Rochester over the weekend, August 10-11. Festivities were canceled for Thursday and Friday, but there was plenty of tractors, music, vendors, and fried fair food to keep the spirit of the Rochester Country Fair alive. Photos by Jean Perry

Opening night is Thursday, December 5, with shows and special “Santa Matinees” running until Sunday, December 8. Pictured here, Buddy, played by Andrew Steele, is ecstatic to have found his estranged and rather grumpy human birth father, Walter Hobbs, played by Luke Cuoto. Photo by Jean Perry

Rochester Tree Lighting518 viewsIt was a rainy Rochester holiday tree lighting, but the show went on nonetheless. Santa skipped his usual fire truck arrival this year for the sake of staying dry and warm, while neighboring Friendship Hall welcomed the crowd indoors to enjoy the RMS band and chorus.
