Rochester Bakery Fire550 viewsA fire on July 28, 2011 completely gutted the Rochester Bakery and Cafe, located at 28 Marion Road in Rochester. Rochester, Mattapoisett, Marion and Acushnet fire departments responded to the conflagration. Racing for Rations550 viewsThe Rochester Road Race saw 348 runners finish on August 13, 2011. Although there were 20 fewer runners from last year, the event still managed to raise 453 pounds of food for Damien's Pantry in Wareham. We tried out some of the equipment and discussed working conditions. We learned about the three different types of rocks – sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic, and how they form, and inspected various rocks and minerals and fossils presenter Jim Pierson has collected over the years.

Great Community Picnic550 viewsThe Great Community Picnic hosted by the Mattapoisett Land Trust and Historical Museum featured great food, music, and lots of creative expression. One table was tricked out in a Jaws theme while another was filled with ladies wearing hats called “fascinators”. The fourth annual fundraiser was a sold out event.
