Tripp Mill561 viewsThere’s a new historical plaque situated at the site of the former Tripp Mill. Located on the west branch of the Mattapoisett River off Acushnet Road, Tripp Mill was owned and operated for decades by members of the Tinkham family. A stone spillway remains at the site. The over 20-acre Tinkham Pond fed by the Mattapoisett River along with other contiguous parcels are now part of conservation lands held in part by the Buzzards Bay Coalition and the U.S Fish and Wildlife Department.

Marion Natural History Museum561 viewsOne hull or two? On March 11, the Marion Natural History Museum afterschool group explored the physics behind sailboat design. Mark Whalen, engineer with Massachusetts Maritime Academy, introduced several alternative design ideas for constructing our own sailboats. The students explored a variety of hull designs, mast locations and different sizes and shapes of sails. Then they raced the vessels in rain gutters to see which design moved fastest.

Mattapoisett Cub Scout Pack 53561 viewsAlthough Mattapoisett Cub Scout Pack 53 had to postpone their Pinewood Derby, Scouts still completed work on their Pinewood Derby Racers. Scouts met virtually during our April Pack Meeting to show off their cars and stay connected. Cars included:

Camp Massasoit offers programs for children of all ages starting with their Scamper Camp program aimed at preschool aged children, 4 to 5 years of age, up to their Counselor-In-Training program for teenagers, 15 to 16 years of age.
