Old Rochester Little League 11U All-Star Team539 viewsThe Old Rochester Little League 11U All-Star Team completed a successful summer season on Sunday, July 27. The Bulldogs won the Dennis-Yarmouth Tournament, posting a 5-0 record, which included wins over Middleboro, Sandwich B, Barnstable (twice) and Harwich-Chatham. For the Bulldogs 11U team, which posted a 14-4 mark for the season, it marked their second title of the summer.

Marion Natural History Museum539 viewsOver the past two Wednesdays, the MNHM afterschool group visited Bird Island courtesy of Isaac and Peter of the Marion Harbormaster's office. We observed many terns arriving to this crucial nesting spot, as well as oystercatchers, gulls, and a pair of Canadian geese. We inspected nesting boxes prepared by the state Fish & Wildlife department and the habitat restoration improvements to the island. We also toured the 200-year-old lighthouse.

Marion Natural History Museum 539 viewsOn August 8, the Marion Natural History Museum hosted Amy Kukulya, a research engineer with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and one of the lead authorities on the SharkCam research vehicle. Kukulya spoke about the science of tagging great white sharks and shared video footage as a SharkCam was repeatedly attacked by a shark; yet, with only a dent, survived to continue following and monitoring these incredible animals.

Mattapoisett Fire 539 viewsAutism Awareness is in the air this November at the Mattapoisett Fire Station after firefighters completed special training to help them understand how to provide appropriate support for an autistic person during an emergency call. The training was sponsored by the Autism and Law Enforcement Coalition (ALEC) and led by an area firefighter who is the parent of an autistic child.
