ORR Hockey518 viewsOn Saturday, January 19, the Old Rochester Regional Varsity Ice Hockey Team ventured to the John Gallo Ice Arena in Bourne to face off against the Wareham Vikings. Members of the ORR team check out the scoreboard, which was quite active all night. The official score for the game was 12-2 in ORR’s favor, however, the scoreboard stopped keeping score at 8-2 due to the landslide victory. Triathlon518 viewsThe Triathlon kicked off the first of the many Harbor Days events scheduled over the week and into the weekend. Hosted by the Mattapoisett Lions Club every year, the triathlon takes racers .25 miles from the shore of Town Beach and back, 10 miles bicycling through Mattapoisett, and 5K through the village around Ned’s Point Lighthouse. Baby Geese518 viewsThey’re here! Facebook is buzzing about the cuteness that is the baby Canada geese on Rounseville Road in Rochester that finally hatched last week. The six goslings and their parents can be seen foraging in the grass for food or swimming in the small pond near the Vaughan Hill Road intersection. But beware! Pinewood Derby518 viewsMattapoisett Pack 53 held its Pinewood Derby on March 9 at the Mattapoisett Congregational Church. The Cub Scout division had 14 entries, and the Enthusiasts division had 11 entries. The five fastest Cub Scouts cars going to the regional competition in Rochester on March 23: 1st Gabe Michaud, 2nd Kyle Pina, 3rd Thomas Tseki, 4th Matthew Crain, and 5th Eamon Perez. Matthew Crain's blue and gold lego car won Best Scout Theme car, and the Most Unique Design went to Liam Garvin's camping car.

Marion Natural History Museum518 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's afterschool group enjoyed learning about minerals and fossils with geologist Jim Pierson. The group also compared various artifacts such as relative sizes of Megaladon teeth versus White Shark, and took a look at many examples of fossils such as fish, leaves, and the tiny tracks of a trilobite. Scouts Honored517 viewsMattapoisett Boy Scouts Matthew O’Dowd, Charles Gaudet, and Alex Poulin were all recent inducted into the rank of “Eagle Scout” during an Eagle Scout Court of Honor held recently at the Mattapoisett Congregational Church. Each scout chose community service projects to attain the rank: Matthew coordinated a successful Red Cross blood drive; Charles organized the repair of the Mattapoisett Historical Society’s picket fence; and Alex helped senior citizens with difficult chores.

Potluck o' the Irish517 viewsSaint Anthony's Church in Mattapoisett held a friendly celebration in honor of Saint Patrick's Day with a potluck dinner and sing-along. Visitors were also welcomed into the church’s fellowship hall by the sounds of Brendan Begley’s bagpipes, the singing of traditional Irish songs, and a performance Celtic dancing. OHS Treasure Island517 viewsThe Old Hammondtown School Drama Club presented a musical adaptation of the classic Robert Louis Stevenson tale, Treasure Island, on Thursday evening, April 17 before an audience of several hundred people in the Mattapoisett school’s auditorium.
