Corcordia Launches572 viewsMattapoisett resident Brian Kvilhaug will skipper the new fishing vessel, Concordia, which was launched in Fairhaven on Friday, December 2, 2011. The 95-foot, 199-ton steel scallop boat is the first built in the area in the past 50 years, and was built at D. N. Kelly’s shipyard in Fairhaven. The young athletes took part in the traditional Opening Day parade, which began at Dexter Park and concluded at Dexter Field. Marion Natural History Museum 572 viewsOn August 8, the Marion Natural History Museum hosted Amy Kukulya, a research engineer with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and one of the lead authorities on the SharkCam research vehicle. Kukulya spoke about the science of tagging great white sharks and shared video footage as a SharkCam was repeatedly attacked by a shark; yet, with only a dent, survived to continue following and monitoring these incredible animals.
