Howard Tinkham225 viewsHoward Tinkham’s 100th birthday was celebrated on Sunday with a parade that went from the Florence Eastman Post 280 American Legion in Mattapoisett out to Ned’s Point Lighthouse and back, followed by a party at the hall featuring “God Bless America” and “Happy Birthday” sung by the Showstoppers and refreshments for the many citizens who attended to express their appreciation for all that Tinkham has meant to the town. Rick Plunkett is also pictured with Rochester Police Officer Austin Alves, who was Ryan Plunkett’s catcher when the two played together on the A’s of the ORYB Major League. Alves recalled a home run Ryan Plunkett hit over the left-field wall that got caught up in the top of the batting cage at Gifford Park.

Tabor Academy225 viewsBy the numbers, the Tabor Academy community service co-curricular has produced this winter: 300 cookies and 22 lasagnas for local senior citizens and the Good Shepherd Church; 6 tables set and 48 place settings for 8 weekly dinners for local people in need; dozens of toys cleaned and prepared for local children; pounds of trash collected from local beaches; 10 hours volunteering at elementary school programs; and many news friends, including 1 iguana.
