We learned how to recognize different shellfish and crabs, as well as some of the various salt marsh plants. We also had fun visiting with a couple of friendly donkeys during our exploration. Thank you for sharing this experience with our group. Museum open hours are Wednesday and Friday all day as well as some Saturday hours (please call ahead first).

The event, hosted by the Mattapoisett Lions Club, saw over 100 competitors begin from Town Beach, swim 0.25 miles, bike 10 miles north of town and back, and finally run a 5K past Ned’s Point and back around to the beach. Marion Natural History Museum 329 viewsOn a beautiful Saturday morning, the Nature Journaling group met with artist Tricia Cassady to learn about some techniques for journaling in nature. We took part in some exercises to loosen up and then had fun finding our own specimens to draw. We also had a chance to discuss our different experiences and have some laughs. Speaking on Humpback whales, Dr. Kavanagh covered several stages, including giving birth (tail first), and how male humpbacks shield the mother while she’s giving birth by creating a bubble-net screen.
