Rochester Memorial Day332 viewsThe Town of Rochester held a Memorial Day procession on May 26 from Town Hall to Daggett Square, where the Select Board read the names of residents who served in the Civil War and foreign conflicts. Monday Morning Painters332 viewsThe Monday Morning Painters are a group of dedicated artists who for more than 10 years have supported one another in their painting journeys. The group meets at the Rochester Council on Aging and welcomes like-minded artists to join them. Unique to this group, their painting is not under the direction of a leader, each artist works at their own pace. Waterway Clean-up331 viewsKyle Kossak caused some concern when he was spotted in his kayak in Hiller Cove off Aucoot Road, but it turns out the mechanical engineer from Newport, Rhode Island, was not shell fishing, he was cleaning up trash along Mattapoisett’s shoreline. For several years now, Kossak has made a weekly hobby of picking out spots along the southern New England shoreline, taking his kayak out to selected sites and retrieving trash. Mattapoisett Woman’s Club331 viewsAt the Mattapoisett Woman’s Club luncheon on March 17, members donated to support World Central Kitchen for Ukraine and filled a jar with cash and checks totaling $500. The next afternoon, March 18, several members of the Garden Group collaborated to create window-box displays at the Mattapoisett Post Office. The design was created by Sharon Doyon to show support for the people of Ukraine. The Garden Group was honored to have several people stop to comment and thank them for their efforts

Old Rochester Youth Baseball League331 viewsThe first Opening Day since 2019 brought out Old Rochester Youth Baseball League players and their families on Saturday morning in Rochester. A parade began at the Dexter Lane baseball complex and made its way to Gifford Park, where ORYB’s David Arancio recognized the many years of service from Derek Mello, Peter Vieira and David Nelson, who all threw ceremonial first pitches. Arts in the Park331 viewsThe Marion Art Center’s annual “Arts in the Park” event was greeted by a gorgeous weekend, as cars lined Marion’s streets and visitors strolled through Bicentennial Park, ducking into the shade of white tents to visit the many artisans and their goods.
