Children learned how to load a musket, Boy Scouts Troop 31 demonstrated archery skills, visitors enjoyed live music and baked goods and those who ducked inside the 1857 East Rochester Church were treated to an amazing display of artifacts. Rochester Rodeo232 viewsThe second of the bi-weekly rodeo was held at the Rochester Fair Grounds this past Saturday by New England Rodeo. Present were over 20 professional bull riders from New England, Latin America, and Brazil. There were also professional barrel riders and mounted shooters. There were some young cowboys and cowgirls who also gave it their best to stay on a bucking pony. The event, hosted by the Mattapoisett Lions Club, saw over 100 competitors begin from Town Beach, swim 0.25 miles, bike 10 miles north of town and back, and finally run a 5K past Ned’s Point and back around to the beach. Town Administrator Geoffrey Gorman, State Representative Mark Sylvia, State Senator Kelly Dooner, Executive Office of Economic Development Interim Secretary Ashley Stolba, and Select Board Chair Randy Parker all spoke before the cutting, with Parker handing the big scissors off to the Stolba and Dooner to do the actual grand opening. Volunteers at Sippican Elementary231 viewsVolunteers at Sippican Elementary (VASE) hosted their fourth Boosterthon Fun Run fundraiser last week. VASE works with Booster, a company that helps raise funds for enrichment activities such as in-school performances, field trips and afterschool programs. Students reached out to friends, family and businesses across 30 states and 7 countries; 87 percent of the student body registered with 79 percent earning donations for Sippican.
