Mattapoisett Boatyard Fire237 viewsSmoke rose over Mattapoisett Harbor on August 19 after a boat caught fire during the replacement of a gasoline tank. An explosion followed by a raging fire leveled Mattapoisett Boatyard and destroyed the 14 boats and 47 vehicles on site. Members of the Kaiser family who own the business and members of the McLean family who founded the business surveyed the ruins on the weekend and vow to rebuild. 237 viewsA procession estimated in excess of 100 vessels is seen from the stern of Mattapoisett’s 28-foot Harbormaster patrol boat late Sunday afternoon in Mattapoisett Harbor. The boats assembled and were led around the perimeter of the harbor, passing close by the Mattapoisett Boatyard and signaling with loud horns in a show of support. Try as they might, the local officers were unable to contain ORR’s Unified team, made up of special-needs athletes and partners who together played a fall schedule of games against other schools.
