Polar Plunge250 viewsOn New Years Day, hundreds were arrayed at Mattapoisett Town Beach for this year’s Mattapoisett Polar Plunge. Since 2013, the beach has seen residents and visitors run into the freezing Atlantic to kick off the new year. The event is held by Keep On Plungin’ who, through the selling of baked goods, coffee, and hot chocolate, donate all proceeds of the fridged plunge to local families grappling with the costs of cancer treatment. Tabor Academy Graduation250 views2024-25 Co-Heads of School Elizabeth Livaditis and Garrett Salit addressed their 2025 classmates, as Tabor Academy held its commencement ceremony on May 30 on the Seawolves’ Marion campus. Keynote speaker and 2001 Tabor alumni Caitlin McCormick Murray was introduced by Class of ’25 graduate Elizabeth Feeney of Marion. Marion Natural History Museum250 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's Coastal Explorations summer program had a chance to view some of the area's amphibian and reptile species at Washburn Park last week. The kids found painted turtles, a garter snake, bull frog tadpoles, green frog tadpoles and salamander larvae. The event, hosted by the Mattapoisett Lions Club, saw over 100 competitors begin from Town Beach, swim 0.25 miles, bike 10 miles north of town and back, and finally run a 5K past Ned’s Point and back around to the beach. Andrew Daniel, Rochester facilities manager who was instrumental in bringing the petition to Nelson’s attention, and Dexter’s sister Debbie Townsend both shared words with the packed house that turned out in Dexter’s honor.

Volunteers at Sippican Elementary249 viewsVolunteers at Sippican Elementary (VASE) hosted their fourth Boosterthon Fun Run fundraiser last week. VASE works with Booster, a company that helps raise funds for enrichment activities such as in-school performances, field trips and afterschool programs. Students reached out to friends, family and businesses across 30 states and 7 countries; 87 percent of the student body registered with 79 percent earning donations for Sippican.

Old Rochester Youth Baseball League249 viewsThe first Opening Day since 2019 brought out Old Rochester Youth Baseball League players and their families on Saturday morning in Rochester. A parade began at the Dexter Lane baseball complex and made its way to Gifford Park, where ORYB’s David Arancio recognized the many years of service from Derek Mello, Peter Vieira and David Nelson, who all threw ceremonial first pitches.
