The event, sponsored by the Rochester Fire Department, saw contestants build boats and race south along the Mattapoisett River. Marion Natural History Museum251 viewsOn July 16, the Marion Natural History Museum's community group had a chance to explore some of our local butterfly species. We found a Clouded Sulphur, Eastern tailed blue, Monarchs, Little Wood Satyrs, Common Wood Nymphs, and two Pearl Crescents. We also learned to identify some of their host plants including Butterfly Weed, Milkweed, Sweet Pepperbush and Mountain Mint. Marion Natural History Museum250 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum hosted Valentina Lagomarsino, PhD student in the Biological Biomedical Sciences program at Harvard University. Lagomarsino shared her research exploring the similarities between the nervous system of the human brain and the mycorrhizal network of connections between trees. She discussed Susan Simard's work between birch and fir trees, and the connections and sharing of nutrients that was discovered when one tree was placed in shade and a neighboring tree fed Carbon 14.

After Class Enrichment 250 viewsPerforming arts and drama courses were offered as part of this year's After Class Enrichment (A.C.E.) sessions at Sippican Elementary School. Students combined painted glass and sand art, assisted by Tabor After School Community Service Volunteers, created clay handles for their vases as part of a collaborative project with the Marion Historical Society, participated in 3D printing, and worked on "Once Upon a Time" STEAM activities.
