Shining Tides Multiuse Pathway359 viewsThe official opening of the Shining Tides multiuse pathway took place on June 12 with approximately 75 people gathered to applaud the 20-year effort. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation hosted the ribbon-cutting event where the elevated bridge span crosses the Mattapoisett River and Eel Pond marshlands. Representative William Straus noted the hard work of both local volunteers and government members, as well as the support and work done by those associated with Secretary of Transportation

Mattapoisett Trees359 viewsThe Mattapoisett Tree Committee is proud that Emma Lowe, winner of this year’s 5th grade poster contest, has also won first place in the statewide Massachusetts poster contest. Emma is a student of art teacher Greta Anderson at Old Hammondtown School. The school received a Kousa Dogwood tree from the state to plant on the O.H.S. grounds, as shown in the picture. Emma’s classmates helped to plant this beautiful tree for all to enjoy for years to come. Congratulations to Emma and Ms. Anderson for a great job

Marion Natural History Museum359 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum wishes to thank Andrew Griffith of the Massachusetts Butterfly Association and his wife Lauren for a terrific walk on Saturday. Despite the sweltering temperatures, we managed to see the following: 2 Monarchs, Eastern Tiger Swallowtail, Spicebush Swallowtail, 7 Sachems, a Zabulon Skipper, a Viceroy, 3 Clouded Sulphurs, Orange Sulphur, Pearl Crescent and Cabbage White butterflies.
