The event, sponsored by the Rochester Fire Department, saw contestants build boats and race south along the Mattapoisett River. Waterway Clean-up140 viewsKyle Kossak caused some concern when he was spotted in his kayak in Hiller Cove off Aucoot Road, but it turns out the mechanical engineer from Newport, Rhode Island, was not shell fishing, he was cleaning up trash along Mattapoisett’s shoreline. For several years now, Kossak has made a weekly hobby of picking out spots along the southern New England shoreline, taking his kayak out to selected sites and retrieving trash. The event was sponsored by the Marion Recreation Department in partnership with Marion’s Police, Fire and DPW departments.
