375 viewsThe second of the bi-weekly rodeo was held at the Rochester Fair Grounds this past Saturday by New England Rodeo. Present were over 20 professional bull riders from New England, Latin America, and Brazil. There were also professional barrel riders and mounted shooters. There were some young cowboys and cowgirls who also gave it their best to stay on a bucking pony. Ned’s Point Lighthouse374 viewsTuesday afternoon offered a sneak preview of the reopening of Ned’s Point Lighthouse scheduled for Saturday, October 9, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. Cathy Hardy and Mike Lally, a Texas couple, happened to be in the right place at the right time to become the first visitors to the 183-year-old lighthouse that had been closed for the past two years and three months. We talked about horns versus antlers and inspected some of the museum specimens of each. We then split into groups and hid pretend "antlers" outside and had a blast hiding them on each other and trying to locate them in the fallen leaves. Transported by the Rochester Fire Department on a journey that began at Fire Station No. 3 at 200 Ryder Road and accompanied by Santa’s helpers riding along in trucks, Mr. and Mrs. Claus made their way down many Rochester roads, spending hours to visit hundreds of children waiting at the end of their driveways and on street corners. The students were able to identify the many species including Starling (small flock), Mourning Dove, Juncos (good views), Cardinal, House Finch, House Sparrow, and American Crow.
