Tornado in Mattapoisett278 viewsAn EF-1 tornado touched down late Tuesday morning in Mattapoisett. The unusual weather event downed power lines and hundreds of trees, knocking out power to many homes north of Route 195. Television news crews descended from Boston, as the Mattapoisett Fire and Police departments worked with utility companies and many power lines to clean up roads and assist area residents coming home to frightening scenes. Ned's Point Wind278 viewsIt's a bird, it's a plane, it's … Labor Day weekend at Ned’s Point in Mattapoisett, where the sky turned into a life-size aquarium. Visitors to the park on Saturday launched large and lively kites mimicking the movement of varying sea-life creatures. Held back by gusty breezes, the "fish" faced the lighthouse as if preparing for a feeding frenzy. Children ran in the grass, while many sat in lawn chairs along the perimeter and just took it all in. Marion Natural History Museum278 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum wishes to thank Andrew Griffith of the Massachusetts Butterfly Association and his wife Lauren for a terrific walk on Saturday. Despite the sweltering temperatures, we managed to see the following: 2 Monarchs, Eastern Tiger Swallowtail, Spicebush Swallowtail, 7 Sachems, a Zabulon Skipper, a Viceroy, 3 Clouded Sulphurs, Orange Sulphur, Pearl Crescent and Cabbage White butterflies. Holiday in the Park 278 viewsMattapoisett's annual Holiday in the Park held on December 9 was a grand success. Buffet-style food tables featured delicious items from local restaurants and shops, from donuts to pizza to Chinese offerings and more. Santa and Mrs. Claus were on hand for little ones to share their wishes for a special gift, while elves, Frosty, and one of Santa's reindeer strolled the park spreading holiday cheer.
