Holiday at Shipyard Park155 viewsMattapoisett’s annual Holiday at Shipyard Park was held on December 14 to the delight of the young and not-so-young. The family-centered event featured Mr. and Mrs. Clause, Frosty, and Rudolph as well as a really big beach chair. The holiday tree was festooned with decorated buoys in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Mattapoisett Land Trust. Marion Natural History Museum155 viewsAfter learning how to build a snake hibernaculum, a beaver lodge, and a bear den, the group tried their hand at creating miniatures for museum display. The beaver lodge was tested to see if it held water back and still kept the lodge dry inside. It was a huge success! With the generous support of the Washburn Park Trust, the scouts, their families and countless volunteers started their spring-cleaning donating numerous items to a local charity (Gifts to Give). Wylie Chair of Maritime Strategy at the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, spoke to Marion citizens gathered at Old Landing for Veterans Day observances on November 11. Also speaking were Select Board Chair Norm Hills, Town Administrator Jay McGrail, and the Reverend Eric E. Fialho, rector of St. Gabriel’s Episcopal Church.
