Jimmy Dexter281 viewsJimmy Dexter received his long-awaited Old Rochester Regional High School honorary diploma from Superintendent of Schools Mike Nelson and ORR Principal Mike Devoll during an August 26 luncheon held at the Rochester Senior Center. Andrew Daniel, Rochester facilities manager who was instrumental in bringing the petition to Nelson’s attention, and Dexter’s sister Debbie Townsend both shared words with the packed house that turned out in Dexter’s honor.

Ned’s Point Lighthouse281 viewsTuesday afternoon offered a sneak preview of the reopening of Ned’s Point Lighthouse scheduled for Saturday, October 9, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. Cathy Hardy and Mike Lally, a Texas couple, happened to be in the right place at the right time to become the first visitors to the 183-year-old lighthouse that had been closed for the past two years and three months. The Warriors earned their spot in the championship game with a big, 10-2 victory over the Heat, while the Knicks advanced to the title game, narrowly edging the Celtics, 10-8. Old Hammondtown School’s 5th Grade poster contest281 viewsPaige Mallioux won first place and Willow Ruel second in Old Hammondtown School’s 5th Grade poster contest with the theme “Be a Cool Community, Plant Trees.” The Massachusetts Department Conservation and Recreation (DCR) recognizes Mattapoisett as one of the state’s Tree City USA member municipalities, and one of the town’s member activities is the annual art contest that fosters awareness in next generations about precious resources.

The Mattapoisett native sailed his 27-foot boat Why Worry on a solo journey that took him as far as Turks and Caicos south of the Bahamas.
