155 viewsOn view now as an outdoor art installation are two works created by UMass visual art students located at Dunseith, the Mattapoisett Land Trust park property at the corner of Route 6 and North Street. Both works are interactive in that The Bean has moveable parts that give viewers of all ages the opportunity to leave their own impact on tiny sculptures by relocating them across the surface of the sculpture. The Catalyst is bed-like, beckoning viewers to set aside cares and rest for a moment.

Boat Fire155 viewsAll passengers escaped without harm after a small boat in Aucoot Cove was swallowed up in flames on July 1. Marion M225 responded to the boat fire, and activation of the Buzzards Bay Task Force followed. The jury-vetted assemblage of artisans surrounded the Elizabeth Taber statue and welcomed shoppers for their goods, while attendees also enjoyed goodies from a nearby food truck and live entertainment from the doorsteps of the MAC. Tornado in Mattapoisett155 viewsAn EF-1 tornado touched down late Tuesday morning in Mattapoisett. The unusual weather event downed power lines and hundreds of trees, knocking out power to many homes north of Route 195. Television news crews descended from Boston, as the Mattapoisett Fire and Police departments worked with utility companies and many power lines to clean up roads and assist area residents coming home to frightening scenes.
