Tool Donation245 viewsTim Moll of Mattapoisett set up a tool and equipment trailer at the Mattapoisett Harbormaster's Office on August 27 to collect donations for the Mattapoisett Boatyard. A friend of boatyard owner David Kaiser and a "fellow boatyard guy," Moll said people have been generous in the wake of the August 19 fire that destroyed the boatyard, including several widows who offered to donate the contents of their husbands’ sheds and garages.

Decimated Designs245 viewsKyle Pasciutti works on a haunted look for Heidi Leger during Tuesday night’s demonstration at the Mattapoisett Library, where the owner of Connecticut-based Decimated Designs turned local faces into living Halloween masks. Michelle Skaar of the library’s young adult programming invited the makeup artist for her teen group, but it quickly became apparent that mask making is a cross-generational activity. Pasciutti decided to pursue makeup when he was a theater art major in college.

Arbor Day245 viewsMattapoisett's Tree Committee held its annual Arbor Day poster contest in partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation on March 2. Forty-three Old Hammondtown fifth-grade students participated in this year's contest. The winner will have their poster with the theme "It’s time for trees" entered into the state-wide competition. The poster contest is an ongoing effort by the Tree Committee to enlighten children regarding the importance of trees in our landscapes.

Along with perusing guidebooks to identify an item, we learned the importance of the history of the artifact, where and when it was collected and by whom. Natural history museums are wonderful resources for students, artists and scientists.
