Spruce Tree246 viewsAmidst wet snow that tailed off into a cold Tuesday morning, the large spruce tree situated between the Elizabeth Taber Library and Sippican Elementary School was taken down after it was found to be a safety hazard. The tree is believed to have sustained a recent lightning strike, and large sections of the tree showed major rot. Some of the wood will be used to add to the memorial to four Sippican students honored at the site since 2009, and the bottom 3 feet of the trunk was preserved.

Mattapoisett Boy Scout Troop 53 246 viewsFrom left, Mattapoisett Boy Scout Troop 53 members Lowell Copps, Rafael Duarte and Joseph Higgins install one of 10 birdhouses that were placed along the powerline property off Crystal Spring Road on Saturday. Helen Lozoraitis and Paul Duffy donated the birdhouse kits for the scouts to construct and installed the poles for mounting.
