Rochester Fire296 viewsOccupants and their animals escaped an October 28 fire that destroyed their house on North Avenue in Rochester. One occupant of the residence was transported to a local hospital to be evaluated for smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Rochester Fire Department, which arrived eight minutes after the 12:39 pm call to address heavy fire and smoke in the attached garage, according to the department's report on its Facebook page.

With assistance from his son Gavin, Mr. Garell showed off some of Spot's "training" and capabilities. The demonstration was the culmination of a series of projects during which Grade 6 students took on a challenge from NASA to design robotic devices with specific functions. Marion Natural History Museum296 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum after-school group had a chance to take a closeup look at some of the amphibians and invertebrates that require these special habitats to survive. We found a leaf-rolling caddisfly larvae, several colorful chronomidge larvae, salamander and wood-frog eggs. All specimens made their way safely back to their specific pool, and the kids have learned to have a new respect for these “nurseries” of the forest. Marion Natural History Museum 296 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum community group and the Nasketucket Bird Club had a wonderful birding walk on November 16 led by Justin Barrett. We were able to identify over 18 different species of birds including belted kingfishers, golden-crowned kinglets, and red-breasted Nuthatches.
