Pumpkin Palooza260 viewsSaturday’s Pumpkin Palooza hosted by the Marion Council of Aging and the Recreation Department at the Cushing Community Center. Families decorated pumpkins, and children enjoyed face painting, a hula-hoop contest, dancing, a visit from Pine Meadow Farm animals and refreshments supported by Tabor Academy volunteers. Pumpkins were later illuminated, giving the pavilion an eerie weekend presence. Sixty-five families preregistered to participate in the event inspired by Marion citizen Dianne Cosman

Marion Natural History Museum260 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum braved the snowy weather Wednesday and attending members were rewarded with 18 different shoreline bird sightings. The sightings included a large “raft” of sleepy Greater Scaup, Canada Geese, American Black Duck, Surf Scoter, Long-tailed Duck, Bufflehead, Common Goldeneye, Hooded Merganser, Red-breasted Merganser, Horned Grebe, Ring-billed Gull, Herring Gull, Common Loon, American Crow, American Robin, House Finch, Song Sparrow and Northern Cardinal. Springtime260 viewsSpringtime weather in southeastern Massachusetts as usual has been a mixed bag, but on Monday these blooming Daffodils in front of the Marion Town House signaled the change of seasons. Almanac.com says that these fall perennials should be planted before the first freeze and that while they prosper in direct sunlight, they will grow in some measure of shade provided the ground is not too wet. Hogan has a trick shot in which he places the ball at his feet, spinning it in place and then fanning the ball forward by creating wind with rapid hand movement until it reaches the foul line, at which point he lets go and watches the ball inch forward.
