Marion Natural History Museum262 viewsOn October 20, the Marion Natural History Museum’s after-school group spent time learning a little about our migrating bird populations. We found out that the Arctic tern migrates 50,000 miles, which is the longest distance of any bird. The ruby-throated hummingbird can migrate as far as Mexico and Central America in search of flowers and insects. We then went on a bird walk and managed to find a mourning dove, blue jay, European starling, black-capped chickadee, and belted kingfisher, among other birds.

Marion Village Stroll262 viewsCars lined several Marion streets as residents gathered for the town’s Christmas Stroll on December 12. Front Street and connecting village roads were partially closed for the event, as families enjoyed refreshments provided by area merchants at their doorsteps and along the roads. Clydesdale horses escorted Santa Claus and passengers, while the Sippican Elementary School Band played, Tabor Academy student singer Wesley Lai of Hong Kong sang, and a bike rider juggled bowling pins. Christmas Swim262 viewsKate Butler was last to arrive but last one out of the water after two dozen people braved the cold, raw elements of the 2021 Christmas morning swim held December 25 at Mattapoisett Town Beach. The event was held for the benefit of Helping Hands and Hooves, a program run by Julie Craig and Debbie Dyson that offers experiences, especially horseback riding, to people with cognitive challenges who have aged out of the many children's programs. To that end on Saturday morning, town officials conducted a second open house to educate residents about decaying and otherwise-inadequate facilities across Route 6 at the Highway Barn, followed by a visit to the site of the proposed construction. Mattapoisett Public Library262 viewsMattapoisett Public Library is now exhibiting works created by the dynamic artistic duo of Dianne and Dick Morgado. Their works, hers in photography and his painting, take both media to the height of excellence in execution and subject matter. Dick Morgado's portraits do more than reflect a face; they search for experiences it has weathered, joy it has seen and contemplation of tomorrow. Photos by Marilou Newell
