The model arrived on Tuesday afternoon from Arizona in a crate weighing a total of 181 pounds. We took a look at Green frog tadpoles, Wood frog and salamander egg masses. We also looked at some of our aquatic invertebrates, such as Water boatman, Caddisfly larvae and others that help by breaking down the leaves at the bottom of the pool and starting the forest food chain. Marion Natural History Museum263 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum’s afterschool group had a terrific time constructing their own rockets for launching. This program was so popular it had to be offered twice! The kids had a hands-on introduction to the engineering principles of propulsion and lift. Every rocket managed a successful launch hundreds of feet in the air, and most were safely carried down by the parachutes. We saw plenty of terns catching fish and an Osprey hover and dive close to Ram Island. Officer Wilson also spent the time to show our kids how to tie up the boat we used and then helped us explore every inch of the patrol boat.
