Our group had a blast making ornaments (and eating junk food) during the event, and everyone brought home an ornament or two to share with the family.

First, Karen showed us how gravity and a simple bucket suspended on a line and filled with paint can produce beautiful paintings. The students painted their canvases with a colorful background and then placed them under the suspended bucket pendulum. When filled with paint and rotated over the canvases.

Marion Art Center404 viewsThe Marion Art Center held its annual Art in Bloom exhibition June 22-24 featuring floral arrangements inspired by the paintings of Stephen and Anne (Carrozza) Remick. Fifteen pieces coupled with art hanging on the gallery walls gave life to the spaces and included traditional flower-arranging techniques and imaginative fairy landscapes of tiny mosses. Blessing of the Fleet404 viewsThe Reverend Eric Fialho, rector at Saint Gabriel’s Parish, presided as the Town of Marion held its first-ever Blessing of the Fleet on January 1 in Sippican Harbor. One tradition well established the past half-dozen years was the sunflower in the outer harbor, where several vessels tied up to one another at the stern and aimed their bows outward toward the sea in 360-degree formation. Arts in the Park404 viewsThe Marion Art Center held its annual Arts in the Park event on Saturday at Bicentennial Park. The jury-vetted assemblage of artisans surrounded the Elizabeth Taber statue and welcomed shoppers for their goods, while attendees also enjoyed goodies from a nearby food truck and live entertainment from the doorsteps of the MAC. Keep on Plungin’ 404 viewsThe annual Keep on Plungin’ New Year’s Day swim drew well over 100 participants to Mattapoisett Town Beach, continuing a tradition started in 2013 by Will and Michelle Huggins to help families facing expenses related to cancer care. In the last two years, the community-driven effort has benefitted three families and Dana Farber with a $1,000 donation in Huggins’ honor.
