The event included musical entertainment by Tri-County musicians, Grades 4 and 5 bands from Sippican Elementary School, Sippican Historical Society carolers and Tabor Academy students, horse-drawn carriage rides, street entertainment, seasonal refreshments courtesy of area merchants, goodie bags from VASE, and crafts for kids. COA Art Exhibit406 viewsThe newest art exhibit at the Marion Council on Aging is both a sublime and exciting partnership between local schools and the COA. Works have been created by students from Sippican Elementary and Old Rochester Regional Junior and Senior high schools. Friends of Old Rochester Music406 viewsThe Friends of Old Rochester Music (F.O.R.M.) recently held their Scholarship concerts in the ORR High School gymnasium, featuring all five ORR districts. Choirs performed on March 5 and bands on March 12. The Sippican Chorus featured soloists Olivia Crillo and Gigi Arone. Marion Natural History Museum406 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum’s afterschool group had a terrific time constructing their own rockets for launching. This program was so popular it had to be offered twice! The kids had a hands-on introduction to the engineering principles of propulsion and lift. Every rocket managed a successful launch hundreds of feet in the air, and most were safely carried down by the parachutes. Tinkhamtown Chapel Christmas Choir Sing-Along406 viewsThe 70th annual Tinkhamtown Chapel Christmas Choir Sing-Along. Smiles and merriment abound in this small but cozy and inviting environment. Not a free pew was seen and all smiled. The chapel was built in 1889 and has been maintained by locals who care deeply for its continued standing and operation. Polar Plunge406 viewsOn New Years Day, hundreds were arrayed at Mattapoisett Town Beach for this year’s Mattapoisett Polar Plunge. Since 2013, the beach has seen residents and visitors run into the freezing Atlantic to kick off the new year. The event is held by Keep On Plungin’ who, through the selling of baked goods, coffee, and hot chocolate, donate all proceeds of the fridged plunge to local families grappling with the costs of cancer treatment.
