Festival of Trees 315 viewsThe Festival of Trees opened on November 27 with a reception at the Cushing Community Center on Route 6 in Marion. Sponsored by the Friends of Marion Council on Aging, the event showcased 14 decorated Christmas trees, along with an artisan sale, music, refreshments and a raffle for over 10 gift baskets. Volunteers at Sippican Elementary315 viewsVolunteers at Sippican Elementary (VASE) hosted their fourth Boosterthon Fun Run fundraiser last week. VASE works with Booster, a company that helps raise funds for enrichment activities such as in-school performances, field trips and afterschool programs. Students reached out to friends, family and businesses across 30 states and 7 countries; 87 percent of the student body registered with 79 percent earning donations for Sippican.

Massachusetts Fire Academy 315 viewsThe Massachusetts Fire Academy conducted a 48-hour class on Saturday involving Fire personnel from the region at Magnolia Cranberry located on Sherman Briggs’ bog accessible off Front Street. The class focused on operating the engine (pumper) in both rural areas and areas with fire hydrants. Seven students enrolled from Marion Fire Department were enrolled. According to Marion Fire Chief Brian Jackvony, the class was originally scheduled for completion in 2020 but was postponed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Betty Parsons315 viewsAt the Marion Art Center on display through October 28 is a retrospective of works done by gallerist and artist Betty Parsons. From as early as the 1930s through to 1980, Parsons received growing acclaim for her ability and wisdom in selecting art done by emerging artists, primarily those expressed via abstract visual interpretations. Parsons was also an artist, described as both a painter and a sculptor for her work in watercolor and acrylic, but also a sculptor for her found items and driftwood creations.
