Marion Natural History Museum320 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's afterschool group had fun last week learning why deer and moose grow antlers, when and why they lose them, and where to look for the shed antlers. We talked about horns versus antlers and inspected some of the museum specimens of each. We then split into groups and hid pretend "antlers" outside and had a blast hiding them on each other and trying to locate them in the fallen leaves. Our next afterschool program is December 15th, our holiday party, where we'll be creating

Together with Narragansett tribal member Max Brown-Garcia, who has supplied Native American regalia pieces, and Vincent Mancini's creations from cut feathers, these sacred works are part of the Marion Art Center’s indigenous art exhibit, “Exploring Native American Culture: Art, Craft and Inspiration,” through March 25. Mattapoisett Museum320 viewsJuniper Griswold, 6, participated in Earth Day activities at the Mattapoisett Museum on April 22. Delighting the children were two Nigerian goats owned by Emerald Heirloom Farm, Mattapoisett. The goats are part of a planned experiment by farmers Ruby Pasquill and Jonathan MacDugall, who are using sustainable farming practices. Next step for the farmers is planting vegetables using organic methods. The couple plans on partnering with a Rochester family farm in a swap of chickens in lieu of rent. Photo by Mar

We collected examples of plankton, caught fish and frogs in our nets, investigated tide pools and took trips to Bird and Ram Island.
