Festival of Trees 189 viewsThe Festival of Trees opened on November 27 with a reception at the Cushing Community Center on Route 6 in Marion. Sponsored by the Friends of Marion Council on Aging, the event showcased 14 decorated Christmas trees, along with an artisan sale, music, refreshments and a raffle for over 10 gift baskets. 189 viewsSaturday’s Pumpkin Palooza hosted by the Marion Council of Aging and the Recreation Department at the Cushing Community Center. Families decorated pumpkins, and children enjoyed face painting, a hula-hoop contest, dancing, a visit from Pine Meadow Farm animals and refreshments supported by Tabor Academy volunteers. Pumpkins were later illuminated, giving the pavilion an eerie weekend presence. Sixty-five families preregistered to participate in the event inspired by Marion citizen Dianne Cosman

Tornado in Mattapoisett189 viewsAn EF-1 tornado touched down late Tuesday morning in Mattapoisett. The unusual weather event downed power lines and hundreds of trees, knocking out power to many homes north of Route 195. Television news crews descended from Boston, as the Mattapoisett Fire and Police departments worked with utility companies and many power lines to clean up roads and assist area residents coming home to frightening scenes.
