Rainfall throughout the fall and winter seasons has filled up even the smallest depressions with water sufficient to make nature’s skating rinks glisten anew. Together with Narragansett tribal member Max Brown-Garcia, who has supplied Native American regalia pieces, and Vincent Mancini's creations from cut feathers, these sacred works are part of the Marion Art Center’s indigenous art exhibit, “Exploring Native American Culture: Art, Craft and Inspiration,” through March 25. Marion Natural History Museum 331 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum community group and the Nasketucket Bird Club had a wonderful birding walk on November 16 led by Justin Barrett. We were able to identify over 18 different species of birds including belted kingfishers, golden-crowned kinglets, and red-breasted Nuthatches. Spruce Tree331 viewsAmidst wet snow that tailed off into a cold Tuesday morning, the large spruce tree situated between the Elizabeth Taber Library and Sippican Elementary School was taken down after it was found to be a safety hazard. The tree is believed to have sustained a recent lightning strike, and large sections of the tree showed major rot. Some of the wood will be used to add to the memorial to four Sippican students honored at the site since 2009, and the bottom 3 feet of the trunk was preserved.
