Storm Damage332 viewsAn uprooted tree lays across the front lawn of a ranch house on Front Street near Silvershell Beach in Marion last Friday. Earlier in the day, a Mattapoisett Fire truck monitored the scene after a downed powerline caused a fire and closed Water Street down the street from Town Hall. North of Route 195 in Mattapoisett, a snapped-off tree is held up by a utility wire. Photos by Mick Colageo and Marilou Newell

Mattapoisett Sunset332 viewsA spectacular sunset is a spectacular sunset anytime of the year, and this one took over southwest Mattapoisett on November 10, only an hour earlier than it would have in October. The afternoons were already getting shorter before the resetting of the clocks dramatically altered our seasonal mindscape under a sun that sits farther and farther south, giving way earlier in the day to big orange moons emerging from the horizon. Empty Bowls332 viewsOn Thursday November 18, 2021, the Tri-Town community came together to support student artists and their activism to help neighbors in need. The Old Rochester Regional High School Art department hosted its second "Empty Bowls" event. This Fall, students in both Ms. Butler’s and Ms. Mogilnicki’s art classes designed and created ceramic bowls. On the night of the event, patrons made a donation and chose a one-of-a-kind, work of art for their soup.

Ski Jumps332 viewsTabor Academy sophomores Andrei Sarbu (yellow pants) and Joe Barry and friends enjoyed their Sunday afternoon, turning the little sledding slope on Spring Street at Tabor Academy’s soccer field into a ski jump. The two 16-year-olds took turns sticking landings from atop roadway barriers. Barry is from Falls Church, Virginia, and Sarbu is a native of Chico, California. Photos by Mick Colageo

Marion Art Center332 viewsLaser wood-cutting techniques used by artist Makerjake, aka Jacob Ginga, combine contemporary themes with those of his native heritage. Together with Narragansett tribal member Max Brown-Garcia, who has supplied Native American regalia pieces, and Vincent Mancini's creations from cut feathers, these sacred works are part of the Marion Art Center’s indigenous art exhibit, “Exploring Native American Culture: Art, Craft and Inspiration,” through March 25. Marion Natural History Museum332 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum’s afterschool group had a wonderful time mixing colors and exploring the effects of gravity on their creations. The students also created their own mini-astronomy dioramas. The museum would like to thank Karen and Mike Cronin for sharing their artistic talents with our group.
