The Halloween themed party on October 19 featured musical performances by Jeff and Lisa Dunn, storytelling by the campfire with Karen Chace, and make-your-own s’mores. Marion Natural History Museum194 viewsOn Saturday, October 18, the Museum Community Program participants enjoyed a beautiful fall day walking Rochester's Shoolman Preserve looking for mushrooms. Mushroom enthusiast Adam Korejwa led our walk through the Oak and Pine upland forest looking for these fascinating specimens. We heard about how the mushroom is merely the fruiting body of the wide network of mycelium which connects all plant and fungal species in order to exchange nutrients and warns of adverse conditions. Holiday at Shipyard Park194 viewsMattapoisett’s annual Holiday at Shipyard Park was held on December 14 to the delight of the young and not-so-young. The family-centered event featured Mr. and Mrs. Clause, Frosty, and Rudolph as well as a really big beach chair. The holiday tree was festooned with decorated buoys in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Mattapoisett Land Trust. Brownie Girl Scout Troop 193 viewsBrownie Girl Scout Troop 67047 hiked the Sippican Land Trust Osprey walk in Marion on Sunday. Ms. Jerline used her Nature Anatomy book to help the girls identify plants. Ms. Liz and Ms. Alda helped the girls carry a tune as they learned three new songs for their Girl Scout Way badge. Ms. Tia helped remind them to maintain their 6 feet of distance with her yardstick and keep their masks on— they did so well! We welcomed a new girl from Acushnet.

Marion Natural History Museum193 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's afterschool group had a wonderful time setting off their rockets on June 9. Despite the blistering hot weather, the rockets were all successfully launched, and the parachutes deployed (most of the time). The students had built their rockets at home before the program with a YouTube video created by the program's presenter, Mike Cronin.
