Sousa Farm424 viewsLand at the Sousa Farm, the most recent acquisition of the Mattapoisett Land Trust, received some needed attention on October 2 when the Rant group of Mattapoisett, made up of Gary Johnson, Jack Dean, Gary Grosshart, Bill Cantor, and Matt Urquhart, went to the farm prepared with shears and trimmed off seed heads to prevent further new growth of a ¼-acre patch of an invasive species of tall grasses called phragmites australis. Marion Water424 viewsAs the Boil Water Order remained in effect for the Town of Marion through a second weekend, fresh water was made available to residents on October 16. All hands were on deck as members of the Select Board, Fire Department, Police Department, and DPW assisted. Select Board Chair Norm Hills said that 1,000 cases of water would be distributed throughout the day at the Cushing Community Center. Each household with proof of residency received one case of bottled water.

Marion Natural History Museum424 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum after-school group had a chance to take a closeup look at some of the amphibians and invertebrates that require these special habitats to survive. We found a leaf-rolling caddisfly larvae, several colorful chronomidge larvae, salamander and wood-frog eggs. All specimens made their way safely back to their specific pool, and the kids have learned to have a new respect for these “nurseries” of the forest.
