Marion Natural History Museum337 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum after-school group had a chance to take a closeup look at some of the amphibians and invertebrates that require these special habitats to survive. We found a leaf-rolling caddisfly larvae, several colorful chronomidge larvae, salamander and wood-frog eggs. All specimens made their way safely back to their specific pool, and the kids have learned to have a new respect for these “nurseries” of the forest. Delighting the children were two Nigerian goats owned by Emerald Heirloom Farm, Mattapoisett. The goats are part of a planned experiment by farmers Ruby Pasquill and Jonathan MacDugall, who are using sustainable farming practices. Next step for the farmers is planting vegetables using organic methods. The couple plans on partnering with a Rochester family farm in a swap of chickens in lieu of rent. Photo by Mar
