Wylie Chair of Maritime Strategy at the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, spoke to Marion citizens gathered at Old Landing for Veterans Day observances on November 11. Also speaking were Select Board Chair Norm Hills, Town Administrator Jay McGrail, and the Reverend Eric E. Fialho, rector of St. Gabriel’s Episcopal Church. Saint Gabriel's Church426 viewsAfter Sunday's 10:00 am service at Saint Gabriel's Church in Marion, families and friends used the coffee hour to make Advent wreaths. Grandchildren, grandparents, couples and kids all had fun making their wreaths. An Advent wreath is a circle of greenery with four candles. The candles represent the four Sundays leading up to Christmas. As it was the first Sunday of Advent, so we lit the first candle. Festival of Trees 426 viewsThe Festival of Trees opened on November 27 with a reception at the Cushing Community Center on Route 6 in Marion. Sponsored by the Friends of Marion Council on Aging, the event showcased 14 decorated Christmas trees, along with an artisan sale, music, refreshments and a raffle for over 10 gift baskets. Delighting the children were two Nigerian goats owned by Emerald Heirloom Farm, Mattapoisett. The goats are part of a planned experiment by farmers Ruby Pasquill and Jonathan MacDugall, who are using sustainable farming practices.
