Transported by the Rochester Fire Department on a journey that began at Fire Station No. 3 at 200 Ryder Road and accompanied by Santa’s helpers riding along in trucks, Mr. and Mrs. Claus made their way down many Rochester roads, spending hours to visit hundreds of children waiting at the end of their driveways and on street corners. Rochester Historical Commission427 viewsOn December 4, the Rochester Historical Commission presented a plaque to the Women’s Club noting the building's age. The plaque was attached to the building by George Owen and Tim Bates. These plaques are being donated by the commission to some of the town buildings used by the community with a hope of sharing town history. We will be extending this to residents who will be able to purchase a plaque for their historic home.

Marion Natural History Museum427 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum after-school group had a chance to take a closeup look at some of the amphibians and invertebrates that require these special habitats to survive. We found a leaf-rolling caddisfly larvae, several colorful chronomidge larvae, salamander and wood-frog eggs. All specimens made their way safely back to their specific pool, and the kids have learned to have a new respect for these “nurseries” of the forest. Delighting the children were two Nigerian goats owned by Emerald Heirloom Farm, Mattapoisett. The goats are part of a planned experiment by farmers Ruby Pasquill and Jonathan MacDugall, who are using sustainable farming practices. An advent wreath is a circle of greenery, marked by four candles that represent the four Sundays of the season of Advent. An additional candle is lit as each new Sunday is celebrated in Advent.
