Principal Investigator Erin Flynn from Public Archaeology Labs, Inc. (PAL) in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, gave an excellent presentation including many locally found artifacts in the museum's collection and others. Marion Natural History Museum 342 viewsLast week, the Marion Natural History Museum welcomed Bethany Jakubson of Amazing Animal Ambassadors. Bethany brought in some of her most adorable mammals, including a Fennec Fox (native to Africa), a Tenrec (native to Madagascar), a Hedgehog named Peter Quill, a Chinchilla and a skunk. Marion Natural History Museum342 viewsMany thanks to Karen Dourdeville of Mass Audubon's Wellfleet sea turtle stranding network, for her presentation on Sea Turtles of Massachusetts. Karen spoke about the various species of sea turtles we might see in our waters, including the massive Leatherback, the Loggerhead, and the much smaller Kemp's Ridley turtle. Marion Natural History Museum342 viewsAfter learning how to build a snake hibernaculum, a beaver lodge, and a bear den, the group tried their hand at creating miniatures for museum display. The beaver lodge was tested to see if it held water back and still kept the lodge dry inside. It was a huge success! Marion’s Memorial Day Remembrances342 viewsYoung and old participated in Marion’s Memorial Day Remembrances held at the Music Hall and Old Landing. Old Rochester junior Emerson Roy of Fairhaven sang “God Bless America,” ORR eighth-grader Sophie Zhou of Marion read The Gettysburg Address, and joining the march were the Sippican School Marching Band and Portuguese American Band, and the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of Marion, who led the Pledge of Allegiance.
