Six years ago, Bauer was an eagle scout who donated his first dog-walking fundraising collection to an animal shelter in Fairhaven. Christmas Swim344 viewsKate Butler was last to arrive but last one out of the water after two dozen people braved the cold, raw elements of the 2021 Christmas morning swim held December 25 at Mattapoisett Town Beach. The event was held for the benefit of Helping Hands and Hooves, a program run by Julie Craig and Debbie Dyson that offers experiences, especially horseback riding, to people with cognitive challenges who have aged out of the many children's programs. Marion Natural History Museum344 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's July Coastal Exploration group had a fun week exploring some of Marion's natural areas. We examined green frog tadpoles and a frog metamorphosis, were invited to explore Ram Island, visited the donkeys and learned about filter feeders, including some of the largest ones like whales. Marion Natural History Museum344 viewsOn October 12, the Marion Natural History Museum hosted Chris Reddy, senior scientist at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, who specializes in marine pollution and petroleum geochemistry. Reddy became interested in plastics in 2008 when he worked with Dr. Kara Lavender Law at Sea Education Association to study the distribution and chemical composition of plastic in the North Atlantic Ocean.
