Wylie Chair of Maritime Strategy at the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, spoke to Marion citizens gathered at Old Landing for Veterans Day observances on November 11. Also speaking were Select Board Chair Norm Hills, Town Administrator Jay McGrail, and the Reverend Eric E. Fialho, rector of St. Gabriel’s Episcopal Church. Supporting with their participation were Marion Cub Scouts and the Sippican Elementary School Band under the direction of Hannah Moore.

Festival of Trees 348 viewsThe Festival of Trees opened on November 27 with a reception at the Cushing Community Center on Route 6 in Marion. Sponsored by the Friends of Marion Council on Aging, the event showcased 14 decorated Christmas trees, along with an artisan sale, music, refreshments and a raffle for over 10 gift baskets. Textile artist Paula Stebbins Becker believes that the works connect memories to visual works equally in complexity to the human mind. Marion Natural History Museum348 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum after-school group had a chance to take a closeup look at some of the amphibians and invertebrates that require these special habitats to survive. We found a leaf-rolling caddisfly larvae, several colorful chronomidge larvae, salamander and wood-frog eggs. All specimens made their way safely back to their specific pool, and the kids have learned to have a new respect for these “nurseries” of the forest.
