Brad Hathaway324 viewsIt took 32 years, but on October 3 Mattapoisett resident Brad Hathaway completed his “Walk around the World” along Aucoot Road, accompanied by well over 100 friends and supporters of his mission refocused some years ago from what had begun as a fitness prescription to a fundraising effort for the Mattapoisett Land Trust. Hathaway, 88, is a co-founder of the MLT and has dedicated his life toward preserving and protecting lands that his ancestors first came upon hundreds of years ago.

Poetry324 viewsBodil Perkins recently made this book for her aunt, Ann Briggs, who is 90 years old and has lived in Mattapoisett most of her life. The book contains 42 poems and the library recently said it was a "delightful book" and will be accepting a donated copy. Ann started taking poetry classes in her 80s.

Marion 4th of July Parade324 viewsMarion Town Administrator Jay McGrail and Select Board members Norm Hills, John Waterman, and Randy Parker walked the Independence Day parade route on Monday morning along with veterans, marching bands, Boy and Girl Scout troops, youth baseball teams, decorated floats, fire engines, and a convoy of antique cars. Ned’s Point Lighthouse324 viewsTuesday afternoon offered a sneak preview of the reopening of Ned’s Point Lighthouse scheduled for Saturday, October 9, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. Cathy Hardy and Mike Lally, a Texas couple, happened to be in the right place at the right time to become the first visitors to the 183-year-old lighthouse that had been closed for the past two years and three months. The lighthouse typically draws 100 visitors from all over the world when open during any regular, three-hour session. Photo by Mick Colageo
