Osprey Marsh Accessible Boardwalk373 viewsDespite a downpour perfectly timed for its planned gathering on Friday off Point Road in Marion, the Sippican Lands Trust celebrated the completion of the new Osprey Marsh Accessible Boardwalk. Executive Director Jim Bride and president Alan Harris held a live Zoom meeting for those who could not attend, and some of the donors for the project assisted in the ribbon-cutting. Mattapoisett Sailing373 viewsThe Mattapoisett Sailing program is in its final week for the 2020 season. Begun in 2006 in memory of William Mee, the program is open to community children divided into two age groups that meet weekday mornings and afternoons at Mattapoisett Town Beach. From 9-11 am and 1-3 pm, students sail under the watchful eye of experienced instructors and three safety boats. Brad Hathaway373 viewsIt took 32 years, but on October 3 Mattapoisett resident Brad Hathaway completed his “Walk around the World” along Aucoot Road, accompanied by well over 100 friends and supporters of his mission refocused some years ago from what had begun as a fitness prescription to a fundraising effort for the Mattapoisett Land Trust. Hathaway, 88, is a co-founder of the MLT and has dedicated his life toward preserving and protecting lands that his ancestors first came upon hundreds of years ago.

Marion Natural History Museum373 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum afterschool group had a wonderful time learning about “Amazing Arthropods” with entomologist Blake Dinius of Plymouth County Extension Service. Members of the group were able to handle a couple of beautiful Io moths, which as caterpillars feed on maple leaves. Nolan Fest373 viewsThe first-ever Nolan Fest was held on July 11 at Silvershell Beach in Marion to honor the late Nolan Gibbons, who tragically passed away on August 18, 2020. The festival featured live music and words presented by area and national contributors, along with video tributes and a fire show. Well, the 3rd Annual Beer and Oyster Festival hosted by the Sippican Lands Trust, of course. This year’s event was held on September 18 on the grounds of the Cushing Community Center in Marion. Marion Village Stroll373 viewsCars lined several Marion streets as residents gathered for the town’s Christmas Stroll on December 12. Front Street and connecting village roads were partially closed for the event, as families enjoyed refreshments provided by area merchants at their doorsteps and along the roads. Clydesdale horses escorted Santa Claus and passengers, while the Sippican Elementary School Band played, Tabor Academy student singer Wesley Lai of Hong Kong sang, and a bike rider juggled bowling pins.
