Stayin’ Alive 353 viewsSurvival Week at ORR Junior High kicked off on the early morning of Sunday, June 17, as the 7th-graders boarded the busses for Western Massachusetts for a week of roughing it in the wild. And for this generation, that simply means no electronic devices and no Dunkin’ Donuts. Survival is now in its 46th year and still going strong. Marion Natural History Museum353 viewsOn October 24, the Marion Natural History Museum held a “Marion Archaeology Day” at the Marion Music Hall. We welcomed Dianna Doucette and Erin Flynn of Public Archaeology Labs (PALS), who had conducted a survey of the museum’s artifacts in 1998. Dianna and Erin helped us understand some of the history of the area over the past 10,000 years, from the Wampanoag people through the colonists and beyond. We took a close look at barrier beaches, vernal pools, salt marshes, and tide pools. The longtime fundraising event was not held in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic but made a roaring return on Saturday, as children raced their homemade go-carts and collected donations for the Murphy and Others, Living Interdependently for Future Endeavors, Inc.
