Dorothy the chicken368 viewsDorothy the chicken visited the Project Grow students (pictured here) and the kindergarten kids on Monday, November 6, for a story time hosted by Evelyn Golden and Molly Vollmer of the Plymouth County Extension 4-H Office. This brief intro to embryology, along with Dorothy’s charming demeanor, was enough to excite the kids about the joys of keeping chickens. Photos by Jean Perry

RMS Students vs. Staff Basketball Game368 viewsTough luck again this year for the sixth graders at RMS during the annual students vs. staff basketball game on Friday night. Although students were able to tie the game and gain a temporary slight lead, in the end the staff’s moves took them down, 60-56. Fifth graders, it’s up to you next year! Photos by Deina Zartman

Stayin’ Alive 368 viewsSurvival Week at ORR Junior High kicked off on the early morning of Sunday, June 17, as the 7th-graders boarded the busses for Western Massachusetts for a week of roughing it in the wild. And for this generation, that simply means no electronic devices and no Dunkin’ Donuts. Survival is now in its 46th year and still going strong. Some, like Survival leader Kevin “KT the Kilt Man” Thompson, have attended Survival since they were 7th-graders 30 years ago. Photos by Jean Perry

Mother’s Day Tiara 5k368 viewsSunday’s wind and rain wasn’t stopping the hundreds who participated in the annual Mother’s Day Tiara 5k in Mattapoisett on May 10. The storm brought strong wind and cold rain to the area, especially at the turn around Ned’s Point Lighthouse, dampening the day but not the sentiment behind the Women’s Fund of Southeastern Massachusetts’ largest annual fundraising event. Hathaway, 88, is a co-founder of the MLT and has dedicated his life toward preserving and protecting lands that his ancestors first came upon hundreds of years ago.
