Take a Hike!399 views In our first installment of “Take a Hike!” we visited Church’s Field in Rochester off Mattapoisett Road. This Rochester Land trust property is easily accessible, with off-road parking and a wide, mulched trail – and, despite the persistent occupation of winter, there is beauty to be found in every season in Tri-Town. The trail loops through a Holly tree grove, passing mossy glacial outcroppings of rocks, and leads to a river, where the historical ruins of the Church family saw mill wait to be rediscovered.

Egg Drop399 viewsOn Friday, April 11th, many enthusiastic Cub Scouts from Pack 30 – Rochester took part in an “Egg Drop” activity. Using recyclable materials from their recycle bins at home, the scouts constructed an egg device to protect a raw egg from a drop of 60 feet. The boys were very creative and quite successful. For this Pack 30 was assisted by Donzel of Barnes Tree Service. In keeping with an “Earth Day” theme for April the scouts will also be picking up garbage around town to help keep Rochester beautiful.

Buzzards Bay Coalition399 viewsOne of the educational events the Buzzards Bay Coalition had planned for April vacation brought kids to the 6.1-acre property to explore the marshy beach for a scavenger hunt. Sippican Schooner 5k and Mini Fun Run 399 views Sunday, May 4 was a perfect day for a fun run through Marion, and about 200 people turned out to participate in VASE’s second annual Sippican Schooner 5k and Mini Fun Run to raise money for educational programs at Sippican Elementary School. VASE member Diana Martin organized the event, with the support of about 12 volunteers who assisted that morning in making sure the two races went off without a hitch. Photo by Felix Perez
