The event is a competition in training, tracking, obedience, and protection for working breeds of dogs. RMS Concert308 viewsOn June 10, RMS hosted the 23rd annual concert, a partnership between elementary and middle schools in Martha’s Vineyard and Rochester Memorial. The concert band contained 150 musicians. RMS veteran music instructor Christine Williamson, along with instructors from the MV schools, conducted eight musical scores to the delight of fellow students, teachers, and family. Marion Village 5K308 viewsThe number of participants in this year’s Marion Village 5K might have been down slightly according to race organizers, but the sentiment of fun and competition certainly was not on Saturday, June 25. Taking first place for men was Andrew Sukeforth of Middleboro with a time of 15:43, and Meg Hughes of Rochester won first place in the women’s division with a time of 19:50. Harbor Days 308 viewsHarbor Days came to Mattapoisett this past weekend, and many visitors were gracious enough to spin The Wanderer Wheel for a $1 donation to the Lions Club. Those who played helped raise an extra $523 the Lions Club will use to benefit the community. Dry Harvest308 viewsIt’s cranberry season in Southeastern Massachusetts. With drought conditions, dry harvesting the berries has started largely unaffected by the lack of water thus far, but bog flooding later in the season could be affected if water sources are not replenished with rain. Paula and Dana Johnson of Rochester are in the midst of their dry pick, circling the bogs, one after the other, day in and day out with their mechanical Furfords and burlap sacks to harvest the cranberries fit for fresh fruit sale.

Annual Turkey Trot 5K 308 viewsThe Annual Turkey Trot 5K wound its way through Marion Village on Sunday, November 17, with 182 trotters (and some ‘turkeys’ as well) braving a chilling wind that morning to make it to the finish line. Organized by the Marion Recreation Department, the event every year draws quite a flock of runners to the start and finish line at Tabor Academy, raising funds for Marion Rec programs and events.
