Mother’s Day Tiara 5k374 viewsSunday’s wind and rain wasn’t stopping the hundreds who participated in the annual Mother’s Day Tiara 5k in Mattapoisett on May 10. The storm brought strong wind and cold rain to the area, especially at the turn around Ned’s Point Lighthouse, dampening the day but not the sentiment behind the Women’s Fund of Southeastern Massachusetts’ largest annual fundraising event. Osprey Marsh Accessible Boardwalk374 viewsDespite a downpour perfectly timed for its planned gathering on Friday off Point Road in Marion, the Sippican Lands Trust celebrated the completion of the new Osprey Marsh Accessible Boardwalk. Executive Director Jim Bride and president Alan Harris held a live Zoom meeting for those who could not attend, and some of the donors for the project assisted in the ribbon-cutting. The boardwalk is open by appointment. See story by Marilou Newell. Photo by Mick Colageo

Salty's Hat374 viewsDue to a lift needing repair, Salty the Seahorse donned his Santa hat a day after the annual event was scheduled, but one of Mattapoisett’s signature landmarks wears it as proudly as ever on December 10. Originally constructed by gift shop owner Henry Dunseith in the pre-Route 195 mid-1950s when Route 6 was the main thoroughfare to Cape Cod, Salty’s future was as up in the air as his snout before a restoration project in 2000 ensured his long-term future. Bowlmor374 viewsTuesday brought the end of an era, as the Bowlmor bowling alley on Route 6 in Mattapoisett village came down when Costello Dismantling demolished the long beloved venue. The structure had suffered a 2017 roof collapse, resulting in a condemnation order and eventually a demolition order for the building. See story on the Mattapoisett Board of Selectmen. Grandparent's Day373 viewsIt was a perfect autumn day for the SouthCoast Senior Resource Alliance Grandparents’ Day at Hiller Farm in Rochester on September 19. Children and their grandparents had fun playing bean-bag toss, bocce, posing with the Three Stooges, and more. The face-painting and petting zoo areas were a complete hit! Most importantly, the free event provided information to seniors on health services available in the SouthCoast area. Photo by Anne O’Brien-Kakley

Car Show Dreams373 views108 cars attended the “A Wish Come True” car show on October 11, 2009 at Rochester’s Plumb Corner. Each vehicle owner paid to attend the show, and the proceeds went to the organization, which works to grant wishes to children ages 3-18 who have been diagnosed with a life-threatening condition.
